Our Story

Southern Orthopaedic Specialists is a longstanding center for excellence in Orthopaedic care in New Orleans, Louisiana, originating in 1945 with the practice of Dr. Rufus H. Alldredge.

He was one of the foremost orthopaedic surgeons in the South. He was soon joined be Dr. Daniel C. Riordan who specialized in hand surgery and subsequently became a world’s expert in reconstructive hand surgery for congenital malformations. From this partnership soon after WWII, evolved one of the premier orthopaedic groups not only in New Orleans, but also in the South.

Dr. J. Kenneth Saer was the next addition to the group and his expertise was in sports medicine, as he was the first team physician and orthopedist for the New Orleans Saints professional football team and remained in that position for over 20 years. Dr. Ray J. Hadaad joined the group next and was a partner for many years before becoming the Chairman of the Department of Orthopaedics at Tulane University. Dr. Claude S. Williams III became the next partner and his area of interest included hand surgery and total joint arthoplasty. Dr. Terry L. Habig joined the group and continued as the team physician for the New Orleans Saints for many years. Dr. J. Lee Moss also joined after completing his residency at Tulane and hand surgery fellowship.

As the original physicians retired and new orthopedists were invited into the practice, the group became incorporated as Southern Orthopaedic Specialists. The location of the practice continued in the uptown area of New Orleans but the practice also expanded to include an office in Metairie, Louisiana.

Since that time, our dedicated physicians have been in continuous practice caring for all orthopaedic injuries and conditions. The latest generation of surgeons provides state-of-the-art treatments of sports injuries, arthritis, and fracture care. Along with our physical therapists and occupational therapists, we are committed to providing multi-disciplinary care for all musculoskeletal disorders.

We are extremely proud of our heritage and are committed to providing continued expert orthopaedic services to our patients. Current physicians at Southern Orthopaedic Specialists include: Drs. Chad W. Millet, Timothy P. Finney, Gregor J. Hoffman, Claude S. Williams IV, Andrew G. Todd, Field OgdenMichael J. McNulty, and Jonathan Finney.

Consultations, pre- and post-surgical care and therapy are all available at two convenient locations in Uptown and Metairie.
