About Jourdan M. Cancienne, MD
Dr. Jourdan Cancienne is a fellowship-trained shoulder, knee, hip, and sports medicine specialist. Dr. Cancienne’s practice incorporates patient-centered approaches with the latest surgical and non-surgical strategies to return patients to their desired activity levels, regardless of their level of participation. He specializes in minimally invasive arthroscopic techniques for rotator cuff injuries, shoulder instability, ligamentous and cartilage knee injuries, and femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) of the hip. He also specializes in revision surgery, including anatomic and reverse shoulder replacement, cartilage restoration/transplantation, and multiligament knee reconstruction.
A native of Baton Rouge, Dr. Cancienne attended Catholic High School in Baton Rouge, LA and then attended Tufts University, where he was awarded all conference and academic 1st team honors on the football team. He then returned home to Tulane University School of Medicine before completing his orthopaedic surgery training at the University of Virginia, where he was recognized as resident of the year and won several regional and national awards for his research. He then completed specialized training in shoulder surgery, sports medicine, and cartilage restoration at Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush in Chicago. While in Chicago, he served as a team physician for the Chicago White Sox, Chicago Bulls, Chicago Steel, and Chicago Fire.
Beyond patient care, Dr. Cancienne is also heavily involved in clinical research to develop and perfect treatment strategies. He has published over 100 peer reviewed articles and book chapters on a wide variety of orthopaedic topics and has presented his research both nationally and internationally over 200 times. His recent research centers on applying biologic therapies to improve healing in both operative and non-operative settings. He is also involved in multiple orthopaedic and sports medicine societies, including the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, the Arthroscopy Association of North America, and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
Outside of his practice and research efforts, Dr. Cancienne spends time with his wife, an OB/GYN in New Orleans. He also enjoys the Saints, LSU football, world travel, and fishing in Grand Isle.
